Yes, you got it right. iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak is out here, and available for download even though it’s a beta launch.
For now, this jailbreak is available for Mac users only who can use it in order to jailbreak their iPad, iPhone 3GS and 4, and iPod Touch 3G and 4G on iOS 4.2.1. Windows users should wait a bit till they can use Greenpois0n for jailbreaking their iPad on operating system 4.2.1.
The best way to download the new utility is from its official site.
Remember to perform a clean iOS 4.2.1 restore before you start to jailbreak your iDevice with Greenpois0n tool.
Here is a step by step guide how to jailbreak iPad on iOS 4.2.1 with Greenpois0n (Mac OS X)
Step # 1
Once you have downloaded Greenpois0n from its official website, you need to add file greenpois0n-osx_rc5.zip on the desktop. Make sure you have unzipped it.
Step # 2
Launch the utility by double clicking the icon of Greenpois0n.
Step # 3
Now it’s time to connect your tablet to Mac, turn your iDevice off and press the big Jailbreak button.
Step # 4
The jailbreak utility version RC5 will ask you to put your iPad in DFU mode.
To do this, press and hold the Sleep button for approximately three seconds.
Now press and hold the Home button while still holding the Sleep button, wait for 10 seconds.
It’s time to let go off the Sleep button, but keep pressing the Home button for another 15 seconds.
Step # 5
As soon as your tablet is put in DFU mode, the jailbreaking process will start.
Step # 6
Just press the Complete button.
Step # 7
Your tablet should reboot now. Once it’s done Loader application GreenPois0n will appear on your Springboard. Launch it by double clicking.
Step # 8
Choose Cydia to install it.
Step # 9
When you have installed Cydia on the iDevice, you should be asked to remove Loader app from your tablet. Choose Remove and press the Home button. Wait till your tablet restarts, and enjoy the jailbroken iPad with Greenpois0n RC5 by the Dev-Team.
What does untethered jailbreak mean?
It’s very simple. Untethered jailbreak means that you don’t need to jailbreak your iPad each time you wish to restart it or its battery life runs out.
If you can’t make Cydia work with the Loader application, try to install Cydia by using Redsn0w 0.9.7 (uncheck rest of the options if you go this way).
Greenpois0n’s official site was undergoing troubles, and a lot of users couldn’t either download the utility or perform the jailbreak. If the issue still exists, wait till the problem is fixed and then try again.
